The Good Horsemanship Society 04/06/2010
So you want to ride with nothing on? At last you can and be insured too! A new society has just been launched that offers everything riders and horse-owners have expected from an insurance inclusive membership package but with an added extra! The Good Horsemanship Society has developed an insurance package to include with their subscription that covers riders, handlers and their horses for Public Liability even when they use minimal equipment, namely halters and headcollars when riding in public areas such as the highway. Horse owners have always been warned that they would be deemed not to be in control if they led or rode their horses in only a headcollar on the public highway. This is archaic thinking and with today’s forward looking training ideas riders and their horses can easily be taught to be perfectly safe when leading and riding in headcollars. The Society insurance even covers riding with just a string round the neck on private property as the Underwriters have deemed the risk to be minimal. From the very beginning the Underwriters knew that members must be encouraged to train properly in good horsemanship so they approached Vanessa Bee of Positive Horsemanship Training and founder of the phenomenally successful Horse Agility Club and asked her to develop The Good Horsemanship Society as an insurance inclusive membership only club which promotes good horsemanship through education and training rather than gadgets and restraint. Vanessa does not promote one system or style of training believing that there are only two forms of horsemanship, good and bad and that it doesn’t matter what equipment the horse and rider are using as long as the result is good. Launched at the end of March the website is still in the early stages of becoming a full blown resource for good horsemanship practices but as memberships continue to grow the indications are that the Good Horsemanship Society is set to be at the forefront of the promotion and development of good horsemanship worldwide.
