First Horse Agility Competition! 02/23/2010
Sunday the 21st February saw the first ever Horse Agility Competition held at the Mendip Stud in Somerset. Everyone who took part had a fantastic time with training sessions in the morning followed by a competition in the afternoon. The two youngsters who took part blossomed throughout the day and competed alongside the older horses as if they had done it all before! The testing Agility course devised by Vanessa Bee saw horses and handlers compete successfully to gain not only rosettes but league Points to be entered into The Horse Agility Club League to win a Trophy which will be presented at the end of the year. Vanessa Bee who devised and started the Horse Agility Club commented: “ It was so encouraging to see two young horses flourish throughout the day from unfocussed youngsters who didn’t know where their feet were to successfully and safely negotiating obstacles which I’ve seen older horses turn and run from. A great start for them! The day illustrated that this sport is suitable for all ages of horses and handlers and is great fun for everyone!” Vanessa, who has bred and shown her own Exmoor ponies and knows the breed well, was delighted that there were two entire Exmoors taking part, the overall prize being won by Hawkwell Vesuvius ably handled by Dawn Westcott.
